D Style Shower Curtains

Bathrooms come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. This is certainly the case with bathing areas, bathtubs and shower units come in all kinds of designs from soaker tub, to open concept showering units. If your bath is not in an enclosed space a simple straight curtain design will not suffice. You will need something which wraps around the entire bath area or else you may encounter leaking water and damage to your valuable bathroom. The D style shower curtain is an effective and affordable solution. Essentially what you will find is a curtain rod shaped in a D, with the flat side facing the wall and then curving out around the bath area. This type of curtain rod will require a three point fastening to the wall in order to ensure stability. The flat side of rod is fastened to wall side of the bath while a ceiling brace secures the front half of the rod. The D style shower curtains unique features allow for more light within the bathroom, where as enclosed bath units restrict the feeling of space in an often small area. The D style shower curtain does take more planning in order to ensure secure installation. The ceiling brace should be secured to the joists above the shower unit and the wall mounts to studs behind the wall. In the case where the brace does not line up with the joists a scab will have to be fastened between the joists in order to provide a secure spot to fasten the ceiling brace. Ideally a D style shower curtain will be accounted for prior to the actual construction of the bath unit otherwise there may be some drywall patching involved.
